Project description
Modernization of the audio system &
Optimization of the church acoustics
Fig.: MEX-1-450 si Gooseneck microphone
In the summer of 2024, the PHOENIX Professional Audio team modernized the sound system at the Cath. Church Mariae Himmelfahrt in Sindeldorf / Schoental (Baden-Wuerttemberg). The existing speakers (from other manufacturers) were to be reused.
The existing audio system was therefore refurbished with a new church amplifier and a new microphone system — a cost-effective and sustainable alternative to a completely new sound system.
To improve the acoustics in the church, the DSP-controlled digital automatic mixing amplifier PV-DSP-4ACD.9.4.2X from Phoenix Professional Audio’s own brand was used. This amplifier, specially developed for acoustically challenging spaces, is equipped with two Class-D power amplifiers and other essential features for reverberation reduction, such as a de-esser (dynamic attenuation of “ess” and sibilance) and a compressor/expander.
The new MEG and MEX gooseneck microphones on the ambo, altar, and priest’s chair ensure perfect speech reproduction thanks to an extremely flat frequency response.
A new MIPRO wireless sound system was also installed for flexible use with considerable freedom of movement. MIPRO’s high-quality wireless systems offer above-average RF performance and exceptional sound quality.
Following a professional system leveling, which the PHOENIX Professional Audio team performed on-site following a precise acoustic measurement in the room, a significant acoustic improvement was achieved in the church despite the continued use of the existing speakers. The result: optimal speech intelligibility and excellent music reproduction — and at a significantly lower cost than purchasing a completely new system.
