Project description
Improving acoustics with little effort
At the end of 2022, individual components of the existing sound system of the Catholic parish church of St. Nicholas in Zwiesel, a neo-Gothic brick church building in the Bavarian Forest, were renewed by PHOENIX Professional Audio.
The aim of the project was to achieve an improvement in speech intelligibility of more than 50% by specifically replacing just a few audio components while retaining the existing loudspeakers.
Little effort – big impact: And indeed, after replacing the old microphone system and installing a new digital automatic mixer amplifier PV-DSP-4ACD.9.4.2X with Class-D power amplifier, an amazing acoustic improvement was achieved in the church after leveling the sound system with the building acoustics. The automatic mixer from Phoenix is specially designed for sound transmission in acoustically challenging rooms such as churches and is equipped with the latest technology: The integrated DeEsser dynamically dampens “SSS” and sibilants) and the built-in Compressor-Expander function is used for dynamic processing of audio signals and recordings. The new amplifier ensures more precise room equalization and excellent adaptation to the room acoustics in the St. Nikolaus church.
The church also received a new UHF wireless microphone system for flexible use during services: An analog 2-channel handheld/bodypack transmitter set with UHF receiver from “MIPRO” (Phoenix PA is an official MIPRO distribution partner) was used.
