Project description
Church sound reinforcement
In 2015, the Heilig-Kreuz Church in Munich Giesing was equipped with a new sound system by PHOENIX Professional Audio from its own brand Phoenix Professional Audio:
After four years of closure due to extensive interior renovation, the newly renovated neo-Gothic church interior in Giesing Cathedral shone in new splendor. As part of the comprehensive interior renovation, Phoenix Professional Audio took on the complete sound reinforcement concept of the acoustically demanding historic building. The main objective of the acoustic concept was the perfect merging of the technology used with the church interior design.
The heart of the new sound system in the church are the digital church sound columns DIGIVOICE with DSP and Beam steering technology. The slim sound columns are specially designed for sound transmission in acoustically challenging rooms developed like churches and contribute in particular to the reduction of reverberation in buildings with strong reverberation.
For the almost 80 meter long nave of Giesing Cathedral only four DIGIVOICE digital sound columns have been installed. Thanks to their electronic sound control (“beam steering technology”), i.e. a in real time continuous electronic controllability of the sound opening angle and the angle of inclination in the vertical direction, the four slim column loudspeakers ensure an even sound coverage in the entire sound reinforcement area. The integrated beam steering technology reduces ceiling and wall reflections to a minimum and improves voice and music transmission enormously.
Since the vertical radiation angle is controlled exclusively electronically, the digital DIGIVOICE sound columns could be positioned flat against the wall and are thus very unobtrusively. Due to their noble appearance and the special powder coating in the color of the church columns, the sound columns “merge” almost completely with the church architecture.
The sound columns are driven by an AMX-DSP4ACD automatic preamp with built-in WEB server.
The professional passive directional sound columns of the K1 and K4 series were also used for the sound reinforcement of the galleries and the sanctuary as well as for the adjoining aisle.
