Project description
New modern sound technology for the
listed pilgrimage church
The project
In the summer of 2023, the aging existing sound system in the historic Maria Stern pilgrimage church in Neukirchen am Simssee (Rosenheim district) was renewed after 1 1/2 years of extensive renovation. PHOENIX Professional Audio contributed its sound technology to this project and took over the assembly and commissioning.
The church
The listed church building is a late Gothic building from 1442, which was extended and given a baroque makeover in the 18th century. The pilgrimage church houses, among other things, a 300-year-old image of grace – the eponymous Maria Stern – which is of great regional importance, as well as a large number of historical votive tablets.
Renovation 2022-2023
From 2022 to mid-2023, the Maria Stern pilgrimage church in Neukirchen was renovated and the altar area was liturgically redesigned. On Sunday, 2 July 2023, Auxiliary Bishop Rupert Graf zu Stolberg consecrated the new people’s altar in the pilgrimage church. A celebration will then take place to mark the reopening after the renovation work has been completed.
Further information on the renovation of the church can be found on the website of the Archdiocese of Munich and Freising (link).
The new sound system
Modern sound technology should ensure optimal speech intelligibility and sound quality in the newly renovated church. When choosing the main amplifier, Phoenix decided to use the analog automatic mixer amplifier POWERVOICE PV-DSP-1D.7.4X-2U with Class-D power amplifier, whose numerous setting options ensure precise room equalization and excellent adaptation to the room acoustics. In combination with the new K4-F sound columns, which were placed in the nave and on the gallery, an astonishing acoustic improvement with a significant reverberation reduction in the church was achieved after measuring and leveling the new sound system.
A new microphone system for the ambo and altar was also installed, consisting of a gooseneck microphone from the MEX series and an MPL-2 boundary microphone.
A “MIPRO” brand radio system was used for outdoor sound. The MA-200 portable loudspeaker system, designed for indoor and outdoor use, was connected to the microphones inside the church and to the sacristy by setting up a stable radio connection.
